3 days Marrakech Merzouga desert tour
DAY 1: Marrakech – Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Valley of Roses and Dades4>
We will pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech in the morning. We will depart in the direction of the Sahara desert. The road is rich in landscapes that are worth admiring.
Near Marrakech, we will cross the High Atlas mountains. We will reach an elevation of 2260m above sea level at the Tizi´n tichka pass, the highest mountain pass in North Africa.
The route of our 3-day tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert continues until we reach the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a fortified town formed by adobe kasbahs (sand, clay, water and sometimes organic matter such as straw or manure) that, once molded, is allowed to dry in the sun. A very peculiar way of building using materials from the ground itself, which creates the feeling that the construction emerges from the landscape.
We will visit on foot, then continue to Ouarzazate, also known as the Hollywood of Africa (Ouarzazate).
After Ouarzazate, we will continue towards Skoura, the first stop on the 1,000 kasbahs road between Ouarzazate and Tafilalet. According to legend, it was founded in the 12th century under the Almohad dynasty.
The palm grove takes its name from the Berber tribe that lived there at that time, the Haskourene. Since then, several populations have succeeded each other, including the Arab tribes of the Tafilalet, making Skoura an Arab territory in the Berber country.
After Skoura we continue through the valley of the Roses, a narrow valley in the rocky mountains of the High Atlas of central Morocco. In spring, the terraced fields surrounding the M’Goun River are full of pink flowers that will contrast with the mountains of orange, purple, yellow and red bands.
The last stop of the first day of the trip from Marrakech to Merzouga is Boumalne Dades, where we will spend the night in a riad.

DAY 2: Dades – Todra Gorges – El Jorf – Erfoud – Merzouga (Night in the desert of Erg Chebbi)4>
After breakfast and showering at the hotel, we will begin the second day of our 3-day trip to the Sahara desert. Today, oases, valleys and ancient Berber villages await us to visit them along the way. Our first stop will be at the Todra Gorges, where you will discover one of the most spectacular canyons in the world. We will continue driving towards Tenhir, Tinjdad, Jorf having lunch in a Berber village.
The beginning of the Berber Villages of Shara and the Desert Oasis comes with Erfoud. The oasis of Tafilalt is the largest Saharan oasis in Morocco. It includes the fortified villages of Erfoud, Arab Sebbah du Ziz, Rissani, Seffalat, Aoufous, and Jorf, as well as palm groves that extend along 50 km.
We will continue driving through this Oasis and then through the dunes of Erg Chebbi, welcome to the Sahara desert. Our desert adventure begins by riding on the camels to cross the sand dunes (you can choose to go in 4×4).
We will cross the dunes until we reach the camp making a stop to watch the sunset. An extraordinary opportunity for those who love photography. Once in the camp we will take tea and settle in the tents. There will be time to walk or relax. In the desert, time stops and you feel deep tranquility. The day ends with an abundant and succulent dinner and an evening around the fire enlivened by the live music that the Berbers in the camp play. All this under the incredibly starry sky that covers the nights in the Sahara. You can find more information about the night in the desert here.
DAY 3: Merzouga – Marrakech.4>
Our guides at the camp will wake you up early in the morning to watch the sunrise in the dunes. Waking up early is worth it in this case. A full breakfast will be served in the camp restaurant. You will have time to shower and prepare your things before we take the camels to return to Merzouga where we will begin the last day of our 3-day desert Marrakech desert excursion to the Merzouga desert. The road to Marrakech is long, so today you will only have a few stops to go through different desert areas. We will continue driving to Marrakech along the same road through the High Atlas Mountains. We leave you at your riad in Marrakech wishing you had a great experience with Sahara Tourism.
